ARTfullness 2021 was sponsored by the Kennebunk Savings Bank. OMAA offered figure drawing and plein air painting workshops with artist and teacher Heather Lewis, mindful sketching with artist and founder of ARTHope foundation, arts and crafts classes for children of all ages with docent Robin Fagerlund, Zoom webinar with Daniel Wagner, “αἴσθησις (aisthesis) in Aesthetics: Historical Sources on Meaning and Value in the Arts,” meditation and mindfulness webinar with Alden Bianchi and yoga classes by the sea in the OMAA Sculpture Park Gardens.  In person classes had limited participation for distancing precautions. 


ART WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS

• Wednesday, October 6th 5:30pm – 7:30pm (Limit 8 people per class) 

Materials You’ll Need To Bring: 18 x 24 pad of newsprint paper, Charcoal -Willow and compressed, soft, Graphite pencil 4 or 6B, Kneaded eraser.  LOCALLY: Michael’s, Artists & Craftsmen Supplies, Portland, Ocean State Job Lots.  ON-LINE: Dick Blick, Cheap Joe’s,  Utrecht, Michael’s

From quick warm-up gestural drawings to longer studies, gain a better understanding of the importance of the skeleton, weight-bearing points, foreshortening and more while working from the model. All skill levels welcomeHeather Lewis, with a life-long immersion in the arts, is an accomplished visual artist, teacher, and creativity coach, who inspires learning through her engaging and interactive teaching style. Classes begin promptly at 5:30pm

Retreat for a morning of creative wellness. Using all the senses, pause and be present with self, art and nature at OMAA.

We’ll discuss mindfulness and creative prac-tice and participate in a guided meditation for drawing in the moment. Observational drawing, writing and just “being” are simple ways to experience self-care. Materials provided or field artists may bring their own. Laura Jaquays is an Ogunquit artist, creative wellness educator, writer and the founder of ART HOPE. She teaches complementary arts-based therapies through drawing, water-colors, journal making and origami.

Janine teaches integral, or classical, yoga, a practice with therapeutic effects. Enjoy this outdoor yoga class to work your physical body and improve your breathing, vitality, concentration, healing and relaxation. Class suitable for all levels of experience.


FOREST THERAPY MEETS YOU IN THE GARDEN

• Sunday, August 8, 9 am-12 pm – $15.00 (EVENT HAS ENDED)

Artist Susan Bickford returns to OMAA to explore and share in the garden. In addition to practicing place-based meditations to drop you into a liminal zone of heightened attention, slow down, open your senses, draw and write. Participate in a ritual handwashing in the garden to prepare for a circle of sharing and enjoy foraged tea and treats.

A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Bickford holds a master’s degree from the Maine College of Art and a cer-tification from the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. She is founder of the (stillness) project, an annual intensive interdisciplinary collaboration in nature.


WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN (Kindergarten–5)

NATURE PRINTING  •  Robin Fagerlund  •  ($10  All needed material included.)

• Saturday, June 26, 10 am-12 pm – K-5 – $10 (EVENT HAS ENDED)

Create unique colorful prints using items from OMAA’s gardens combined with gelatin plates and non-toxic acrylic paint on paper.  These prints may be made into a memory journal if desired. Robin Fagerlund, a retired teacher and former OMAA docent, works with a variety of materials focusing on printmaking with nature. (Guardian required)

NATURE WEAVING  •  Robin Fagerlund  •  ($10  All needed material included.)

• Saturday, July 24, 10 am-12 pm – K-5 – $10 (EVENT HAS ENDED)

Use found natural items including jute, twine, yarn and embroidery floss to assemble an interesting hanging sculpture. Time permitting, basic macrame knots will be used to make a plant hanger for a house plant. (Guardian required)
