SUMMARY:Spring Break: Cyanotype Drop-In Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us during spring break to learn about cyanotype with artist and educator\, Hannah Babcock! \nThis workshop is free\, open to the public\, and does not require registration. \n  \n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nWorkshop description:\nIn this workshop\, we will learn about using the power of the sun to make images using cyanotype\nprintmaking! We will arrange stencils and use markers on top of transparent plates to create small\ncompositions that will block out UV light and will result in beautiful blue and white prints. \n  \nArtist Bio:\n\nHi! My name is Hannah and I’m an artist and art educator located in Portland\, Maine. I grew up\non the coast of Southern Maine and am so thrilled to be back after completing my Bachelors in\nStudio Art at Carleton College in Northfield\, Minnesota. I’m currently a graduate student and\nteacher candidate at Maine College of Art and Design. My practice is centered around the\nintersections of craft\, labor\, and sensitivity. I work primarily in sculptural installation and both\nwoodcut and intaglio printmaking. Process is so integral to the work I make\, and I hope to\nforeground the importance of process over product for my students.

SUMMARY:Spring Break: Earth Day with the Great Works Land Trust
DESCRIPTION:This Earth Day\, learn about the tiny details that make up the larger environment on the Museum’s grounds with our friends from the Great Works Land Trust! Starting with the micro and zooming out to the macro\, we’ll explore context and the impact that small elements can have on a larger ecosystem. Educators from the GWLT will highlight the importance of these details by exploring the Museum’s grounds and introducing younger learners to small critters in a touch tank. \nThen\, take these close-looking skills into the galleries to practice spotting the tiny details that reveal the larger context of a work of art. Natural and artistic environments share so much! \nThis program is free\, open to the public\, and does not require registration. Drop in between 10am and 1pm to join the fun.  \n\n

SUMMARY:OMAA Conversations: Dr. Amy Rahn
DESCRIPTION:Over and Under the Surface: Painting in Community \nPlease join us for a conversation with Dr. Amy Rahn\, Associate Professor of Art History at University of Maine at Augusta and Director of the Charles Danforth Gallery. \nIn Gisela McDaniel’s work\, her close ties to community are right on the surface\, with the artist’s chosen subjects\, their donated artifacts\, and their voices meeting the viewer on and in front of the paintings. Beginning with this clear and generous declaration of community\, Dr. Amy Rahn’s talk connects these collaborative paintings to new approaches to art history that can reorient our understanding of artistic influence to the deep social ties that support and inspire artists in their studios. \nFree\, Registration Required. \nRegister Here
