Gail Spaien: Serenade

Little Gallery
June 1-28, 2017

Closing reception: June 27, 5 p.m.

Serenade is an exhibition of paintings by the artist Gail Spaien. Inspired by the symbolism, contradiction, and pleasure embedded in folk art traditions of New England and Dutch floral painting of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, Spaien’s most recent series captures fleeting moments in a picturesque landscape. She suspends the viewer in an idealized world where emotions remain light. Looking at her paintings, one takes respite in the beauty of nature and home.

This exhibition is made possible by Crandall K. Toothaker.

Gail Spaien is supported in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, and by the Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Foundation, Provincetown, MA.
