For Anna Hepler, the intersection she creates between two and three-dimensions energizes her work; for, any action in one area gives her a sense of possibility in the another. What emerges, then, is a visual play on the translation between action and thought. When speaking as an artist encountering materials, Hepler notes how her slower lifestyle in Eastport, Maine leaves room for serendipity. It is this disposition of encouraging and welcoming chance that influences her methods and modes of art making. Yet, within all the chance happening found within her work, one can find a common thread, for in the hands of Hepler familiar materials become unfamiliar and in doing so allow one to walk the edge of perception when viewing her work.
