Jo Sandman: One Hand Clapping

Jo Sandman’s innovative artistic practice explores complex interconnections between the physical world and the artist’s determined examination of the structural underpinnings of abstraction. Her practice spans painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and assemblage.

Sandman studied with Hans Hofmann and Robert Motherwell, and as an artist and educator, she has taught at Wellesley College, The Art Institute of Chicago, and Massachusetts College of Art and Design. In 2018, OMAA acquired 33 works of art through the Jo Sandman Legacy Project. This selection with be presented for the first time, alongside major pieces from public and private collections throughout New England.

This exhibition is arranged by the Ogunquit Museum of American Art.
