After Party posits a unique timestamp on the influence of the Ogunquit art colony and the significance of time, place, and community in the history of American art. Rosen’s experiential installation casts present-day Ogunquit in relation to the 20th century artists who comprised the creative collaborative that transformed a vision for American modernism.
Portrayed as a smoldering fantasy of remembrance, Rosen’s installation animates natural elements extracted from the beach at Narrow Cove and the immediate surroundings outside OMAA. Timeworn, charred fragments of the environment are presented as an absentee portrait of Ogunquit artists in the predawn hours following one of the art colony’s legendary beach parties. Rosen’s animated artifacts re-interpret Ogunquit’s cultural heritage in this time-lapse, site-specific narrative commemorating the community’s artistic luminaries and place in American art history.
Exhibition is made possible through the generous support of Cliff House Maine.
