DESCRIPTION:Learning from the Collection: Approaching Painting with OMAA as a Resource \nWEDNESDAY\, MAY 29\, 3:30 – 6:30PM \nFor the first hour of this class\, students will examine work on view in the Museum and choose an artist’s work that is of interest to them. This will give the students an opportunity to think about a specific style of painting while participating in discussions about the dynamism of modern art in the early to mid-20th century. Together with instructor Glover\, participants will specifically examine the artist’s techniques: painterly qualities\, color use\, composition—all the formal elements the artist deployed in building their painting. DESCRIPTION:The Light of Narrow Cove \nTHURSDAY\, JUNE 13\, 5 – 7PM \nCarl Austin Hyatt has been photographing the coast of New England for 35 years. More recently his focus has been on Narrow Cove and nearby Bald Head Cliff (at CLIFF HOUSE MAINE). He will speak about how the ‘spirit of place’ shapes not only art but also the artist and even the community through time. He will share insights into how to create compelling compositions of the sea gleaned from his many years of work on the coast.There will also be an opportunity to have a hands-on experience with his 8″ x10″ view camera. He sees his work at Narrow Cove as contributing to the ongoing legacy of Ogunquit’s original artist community. DESCRIPTION:The Ogunquit Museum of American Art will host its annual Art in Bloom event Friday\, June 21 through Sunday\, June 23. During this three-day event\, the museum will showcase over a dozen floral sculptures created by area garden clubs\, professional florists\, and independent floral designers. Responding to works of art on view\, each designer will present an arrangement made from organic matter including seed pods\, driftwood\, and other natural treasures. \nOn Saturday\, June 22\, from 2-4pm\, there will be a floral arrangement demonstration led by Laura Lindop. Don’t miss it! \nArt is Bloom is included in the price of museum admission.

DESCRIPTION:The Simple Line: Oil Painting for Beginners \nMONDAY\, JULY 1\, 4:00 – 7:00PM \nThis class is for beginners who have never painted before or for those who have some experience but are looking for more. Using only four colors\, we will break down the painting process into three easy steps: assessing color\, drawing\, and expressive mark making\, design\, value\, color\, and creative oil painting techniques will be discussed and demonstrated. With an understanding of these principles\, students will be better equipped to meet the challenges of painting and better able to express themselves as an artist. \nART SUPPLIES \nPalette \nPaint \nTitanium White \nCad Yellow medium \nAlizarin Crimson Permanent \nUltramarine Blue \n* Black optional \nPainting surface \n8×10” or  9×12” canvas  \nBrushes \n* I use 3 to 4 brushes to complete a painting. I have a good assortment of bristle brushes (I suggest Flats and Filberts. I mostly use size #3\, #6..(the bristles are approximately the size and width of your thumb) \n*I also use a Small synthetic round for drawing and details. A #2 synthetic round is fine.  \nOther \n*Trowel type Pallet knife \n*liquin and pallet cup (or any quick dry medium)  \n****Gamsol (Turpentine substitute) with container or medium glass jar \n*paper towels (Blue shop towels are the best) \nTickets for this class are $45\, and pre-registration is required.
