SUMMARY:The Call of Ogunquit Painting\, Tom Glover
DESCRIPTION:Engage with the history of the Ogunquit arts communities with this lecture and hands-on painting class with Tom Glover\, who studied with John Laurent for over two decades. He met Laurent at the University of New Hampshire where John had taught for 30 years. It was the connection with Laurent and his ties to early modern American painting through Marin\, Hartley and Walt Kuhn that intrigued Glover. He feels that art builds upon itself as each group of painters passes on ideas\, techniques\, manifestos–an ethos of aesthetic concerns. Through the years an artist begins to absorb and modulate that knowledge and insight – join this discourse. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Tuesday Talk – Donna Cassidy
DESCRIPTION:June 13 – Donna Cassidy* \nIn the first half of the twentieth century\, visual artists went to the beach to define themselves as modern—by experimenting with new styles and by picturing and promoting this new social and cultural space. This talk will examine the shifting meanings of the beach and the varied ways that it functioned in early twentieth-century art as modern\, both in Ogunquit and in the northeastern United States. It will draw on the many artworks in the exhibition Shifting Sands. * THIS LECTURE WILL TAKE PLACE ON ZOOM \nClick here to register for this Tuesday Talk

SUMMARY:Todd Bonita\, The Simple Line: Oil Painting for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:This class is for beginners who have never painted before or for those who have some experience but are looking for more. Using only four colors\, we will break down the painting process into three easy steps: assessing color\, drawing\, and expressive mark making. SUMMARY:Subcircle Dance Performance
DESCRIPTION:Celebrated Biddeford-based dance and art installation company Subcircle has been invited to perform on the grounds of OMAA. Subcircle artists will create improvisational movement structures and soundscores inspired by the OMAA site\, seasonal exhibitions\, and surrounding landscape. These events aim to make visible the ways art\, geography\, architecture\, and the body are in constant dialogue. \n\n\n  \nChoreography created during the day will be free to observe by museum guests and will culminate in an evening ticketed performance\, where they will present a site-specific modern dance commissioned to celebrate OMAA’s landscape and identity. \nAttendees are encouraged to bring chairs\, blankets\, and pillows to take in the performance\, which will take place in OMAA’s beautiful gardens. Tickets include a glass of wine at the event. Seating opens at 4:30pm\, with the performance beginning at 5:00pm. Rain date August 2nd. \nPurchase Tickets Here!
